January 20, 2025 - MLK Day of Service

On this day, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader who dedicated his life to justice, equality, and service. It’s not just a day to remember but a day to act—a chance to make a positive impact in our communities. Every act of service, no matter how small, helps bring Dr. King’s vision of unity and shared humanity to life.

Day of Service Clean-Up

January 25, 2025 - Empowering Allies: Bystander Intervention Training

  • When: 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Where: Second Café
    This training, sponsored by the Roanoke Diversity Center and SERV (Standing for Equity in the Roanoke Valley), will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to intervene as allies when LGBTQ+ individuals face discrimination. Learn how to recognize harmful behaviors, address them safely, and create a supportive environment. More information and registration here

Implicit Bias: Understanding and Addressing It

  • When: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
  • Where: The Grandin Theater
    This session, sponsored by SERV, DoGood Virginia, and The Grandin Theater, will explore how unconscious biases shape our actions and decisions. Participants will gain tools to identify and reduce biases while fostering equity and inclusion. More information and registration here. 
  • Bonus Opportunity: PORCH Roanoke will be on-site to collect food for the unsheltered.
  • Requested items: Vienna sausages, individual tuna packs, beef jerky, pudding cups, fruit cups, applesauce cups, and granola bars.

February 24, 2025: Meeting/Training

    • When: 6:30-8:30 pm 
    • Where: Heights Community Church 

      Delegate Rasoul will provide a civics lesson, covering topics such as executive orders, judicial interventions, and effective ways to make our voices heard at the state and federal levels. Mayor Cobb will focus on actionable steps we can take locally to support our marginalized neighbors and address mental health issues. Together, they will guide us through impactful contributions, aligning with our community engagement levels.
